Are You Enrolled in a DOT Consortium?
Individuals who are employed in a position designated as "safety sensitive" must be actively enrolled in a random drug and alcohol testing program. Oftentimes, covered employees will join a group of other DOT regulated employees in a random testing program and this is referred to as a DOT Consortium. Generally, an employer who has less than fifty employees or single operators will join the consortium which will comply with the random drug and alcohol testing requirements of 49 CFR Part 40. Employers that have over 50 employees who are regulated by Part 40 may elect to be enrolled in a "stand alone" random testing pool.
The DOT consortium is cost effective and complies with all requirements of 49 CFR Part 40 which mandates that all "safety sensitive" employees be enrolled in a random drug and alcohol testing program.
The Department of Transportation (DOT) has strict regulations requiring regulated companies and independent operators (CDL License Holders) to be an active member of a DOT drug and alcohol Consortium and failure to comply with these regulations can result in significant fines and other DOT sanctions.

DOT regulated companies with multiple safety sensitive employees must also have an employee within the company who is assigned as the "designated employer representative" (DER). If you have recently become a DOT regulated company, within the next 18 months the Department of Transportation (DOT) will conduct a "new entrant" inspection to ensure that you are in compliance with all DOT regulations including the drug and alcohol testing requirements. If you are currently a DOT regulated company, you are subject to regular inspections to ensure compliance.

Cherokee Strip is a census-designated place in Kern County, California. It is located 2.5 miles (4 km) south-southeast of Shafter, at an elevation of 331 feet (101 m). The population was 227 at the 2010 census.
The 2010 United States Census reported that Cherokee Strip had a population of 227. The population density was 2,504.6 people per square mile (967.0/km²). The racial makeup of Cherokee Strip was 84 (37.0%) White, 0 (0.0%) African American, 4 (1.8%) Native American, 0 (0.0%) Asian, 0 (0.0%) Pacific Islander, 117 (51.5%) from other races, and 22 (9.7%) from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 187 persons (82.4%).
There were 56 households, out of which 32 (57.1%) had children under the age of 18 living in them, 34 (60.7%) were opposite-sex married couples living together, 7 (12.5%) had a female householder with no husband present, 6 (10.7%) had a male householder with no wife present. There were 7 (12.5%) unmarried opposite-sex partnerships, and 1 (1.8%) same-sex married couples or partnerships. 7 households (12.5%) were made up of individuals and 4 (7.1%) had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
